Venue
The Winter School will be held 23 - 27 January 2012 in the communal room in Zinal, a village located in the canton of Valais in Switzerland with a well-known skiing area and close to several of the 4000 metre mountains of the Alps.
Accommodation will be at the Hotel Europe http://www.europezinal.ch/, the largest hotel in Zinal and in other hotels close by in village.
Access to Zinal is by public transportation (bus) or by car. The confefrence organizers will foresee a rented bus at the beginning and the end of the Winter School to transport the majority of the participants without having to use public transportation.
Plane
It is possible to fly to either Geneva, Zürich or Milano when planning to come to Zinal. Sierre is the closest train station to Zinal.
From the Geneva airport direct trains leave to Sierre every 30 minutes from 7AM-8PM, fewer at other times. From Zürich airport at least one change is necessary in Visp, sometimes a second change in Bern or Zürich main station. From Milano an airport bus needs to be taken to the main train station and then a train with a change in Brig.
Train
The Swiss train network is very extensive and it is well connected to other European countries such as France, Germany or Italy. Trains need to be taken to Sierre, and then a bus has to be taken.
Car
Car travel is also easily possible from most neighboring countries. It can sometimes be faster to take a train through one of the tunnels with the car (Lötschberg or Furka) when coming from the North.
